Fish Over a Barrel

Random thoughts while wondering what ever happened to Kent Nix:

The Bears meet the Dolphins in a classic trap game tomorrow in Chicago.  Even if the Bears aren’t looking ahead to the Giants on November 12, they still will have Larry Czonka and friends on the sidelines hoping the Bears don’t go undefeated (the ’72 fins are the last team to do that.)

The good news is, the Dolphins under Nick Sabin stink.  Nick is the genius that passed on Drew Breese and settled for Dante Culpepper and Joey Harrington.  The Dolphins are playing almost as poorly as they did under coaching legend Dave Wannstedt.  Bottom line, Bears win by at least two touchdowns.

If the Bears survive, the boys from South Beachmay want to focus their attention on the Colts and Patriots on Sunday night.  I like New England’s chances in this one, especially since Tom Brady has proven he can win big games and Peyton Manning has not.  New England should win by six.

Is it Stockholm syndrome, or are the Green Bay Packers actually a respectable football team this year?  And to think, I’ve actually defended Ted Thompson.

Speaking of winning, is it just me or does it really not matter if the Democrats gain control of the house and senate as long as the Republicans control the White House?  In 2008, the key word will be gridlock.

Are you sick of  political ads yet?  If I hear it right, the gubernatorial candidates in Wisconsin are for higher taxes, take money from PACs, want illegal immigrants to go to school for free and are incredibly soft on crime.  It has to be true because it’s on TV.

Ooops.  Dave just lost to USF.  Nicely done, genius.

Then there is the sad story of the Rev. Ted Haggard who allegedly is into gay sex and methamphetamines.  The sad part of this is not the hypocrisy that he represents (if the allegations are true), but rather how he succeeded in getting John Kerry off the hook four days before the election.  Think Karl Rove is diving for the Rolaids right about now?

Here’s an election story where a candidate for Governor in Minnesota is allegedly quoted as saying one thing but claims he said another.  Mike Hatch, a democrat, was quoted as calling a reporter “a republican whore.”  Hatch claims he said something different, but even if he did, exactly where is the story?  Did Hatch offend Republicans?  Did he offend prostitutes?  Should he have used the phrase “tart” or “slut” or “street walker”? Is there any news value to this story?  Four days before the election, sure there is.  And you don’t think the media influences elections.

Texas has begun putting video images of the border on line in an effort to have average citizens alert them to illegal boarder crossings.  Well, it does give me something to do.

And, only in California, a naked man was arrested for carrying a concealed weapon.  Sorry, ladies, it was not a bazooka.
