Random Thoughts: Brackets Shaky But Holding
Random thoughts while wondering what ever happened to Matt Merullo:
- Two of my final four teams are still in the hunt, with the good news being my champion is projected to be Georgetown. The bad news is I had them playing Texas A&M, not Ohio State.
- The University of Florida has ordered the Brink's truck loaded in an effort to keep Billy Donovan. If it's truly money and power, Florida will gladly give that up to not lose their coach to a huge divisional rival.
- The White Sox continue to struggle in Arizona. Mark Buerlhe is fooling no one. And the struggle may have to go on without Toby Hall, who injured his shoulder while playing first base yesterday. Even if Hall could be ready to go on opening day, chances are he won't be able to throw anyone out.
- The Bears signed a couple of players over the weekend. Re-signing Ruben Brown was big because Cedric Benson will need all the help he can get. DT Anthony Adams was interesting, considering he was a teammate of former Bear Michael Haynes. And we all know how well that draft pickworked out.
- Kyle Busch wins the first NASCAR in the "car of tomorrow." Matt Kenseth should be aware of UPS trucks in his driveway for awhile.
- Joe Theismann is out on Monday Night Football. The reason: he allegedly can't work with Tony Kornheiser. I lay this one at the feet of Mike Tirico who couldn't control the traffic flow in the booth. I don't care what anyone says, if ESPN had left Mike Patrick, Paul McGuire and Theismann in tact, we wouldn't be having this conversation. I am also convinced that Kornheiser has pictures of high ranking ESPN officials with farm animals because I have no clue what the guy's appeal is.
- If some of these Canucks would venture out of their ice shacks once in a while, they may realize hockey in Nashville is not nearly as bad as they think it is. The fan base is loyal, but you throw in a one-year work stoppage in a non-traditional market where there are many entertainment options and you will lose some customers.
- A salute to the time honored art of goal keeping. I would have had Hassek lower, Dryden higher and Tony Esposito on the list. How about Gerry Cheevers, too?
- As I mentioned yesterday, the NHL will be talking about fighting again. For those of you unfamiliar with the practice of fighting in the NHL, here is why people love it so much.
- The investigation into the death of Pakistan cricket coach Bob Woolmer continues. Woolmer, found dead a day after his team was upset in world cricket competition, is being ruled a victim of foul play. Say, has anyone checked up on Roy Williams this morning?
- Looks like Walker, Texas Ranger has taken a few too many kicks to the head.
- It's tough being Wal-Mart. First, the trade lobby assaults you for the manner in which your containers are being inspected. Then come the tree huggers who are concerned about your treatment of turtles. I'm sure people will stop shopping there immediately.
- McDonald's has decided to become more upscale. Why can't we just go back to a time where things are simple, not $4 hamburgers in a place that looks like a ski chalet. What's next? McChateau Brigand? McEscagots? McQuiche?
