Breaking News: White Sox Petition MLB for Emergency Change of Venue

The Chicago White Sox, easily one of baseball's biggest disappointments in 2007, have sent a letter to major league baseball asking that all of their games, home and away, be played in the Tropicana Dome in Tampa Florida.  The action came immediately following the White Sox 5-1 win over the Devil Rays and a series sweep for Chicago.

In a statement, White Sox General Manager Kenny Williams said "We've played so well here that we don't want to leave and if the league will allow us to stay, we think we can add to the pennant race and make things very interesting and entertaining.  If we go 87-0 the rest of the year, certainly, at the end of the season we should be at least close to Cleveland and Detroit."

In his post game remarks, Sox manager Ozzie Guillen seemed pleased by the prospect.  "We did everything well here, pitched well, hit well, played good defense.  All of the things that we haven't been doing, we did and we play good ball. I thought that it was suddenly 2005 again.  I say stay."

Guillen went on to say that he believed that there might be some divine intervention involved. "In 1986 before Jerry Reinsdorf blackmailed the tax payers of Illinois to build the big phone booth, we were maybe moving to Tampa.  So maybe, this time, it's right and we go."

When asked what would be done with an empty ballpark the remainder of the summer Guillen said "Well, if we had moved to Tampa in 1986, they would have used it as a landfill.  Maybe they could use it for one now."

Tampa manager Joe Madden had no problem with the Sox staying put at the dome. "Hell, they won it from us fair and square.  Besides, the fans of Tampa would welcome them with open arms.  The Sox bought pizza for them four nights in a row."

Commissioner Bud Selig was out of pocket ducking Barry Bonds and could not be reached for comment.
