Boston Massacre Proves There Is Little Hope
Well yesterdays second consecutive Boston massacre sure took the wind out of the White Sox sails in a hurry.
Just when you thought maybe this team could at least play respectably the rest of the year, they drop 10-3 and 11-2 decisions to the Red Sox (today's projection is 12-1 by the way.)
The bullpen is still a mess, the offense is still inconsistent and the starting pitching is getting a sore back from carrying this team. And if you are Ozzie Guillen, there is nothing you can do about it except trot out the best nine guys you can find everyday, hope the starter goes deep into the game and pray you can get to Bobby Jenks before the other team gets to your bullpen. So, if Danks or Buehrle is up around 90-100 pitches in the sixth inning, prepare to be boarded.
Even Ozzie Guillen, who has been fairly optimistic, has decided the glass is half empty for this team. And yet, with the trading deadline a mere nine days away, it does not look like there will be much movement on the trade front. Again, I have to emphasize, that it would serve this franchise well to play the kids in the outfield the last two months of the season. What can Ryan Sweeney, Jerry Owens and Brian Anderson do playing everyday at the major league level? How about Andy Gonzalez at shortstop or Danny Richar ar second? Unlike 1997, this dead is officially dead, so why not send all the potential free agents on their way and let the kids get some ABs at the big league level. Even with the kids playing, you still have Konerko, Thome, Pierzynski and a solid (except maybe for Contreras) starting staff. Worst case, you finish last. Best case, you let the Twinkies feel your hot breath on their neck.
There's no shame in giving up this early. The fans gave up a long time ago.

Lightning Round:
- The Cubs miss an opportunity to gain ground on the Brewers who are hosting the Barry Bonds traveling carnival and freak show. I hope our friend Tyler Barnes is having a good time trying to accomodate all of the media who shows up at events like this.
I find it ironic that Milwaukee is so into Henry Aaron. He left here in 1965 when the Braves moved to Atlanta and returned to Milwaukee for two years ipretty much playing out the string as a player who hadn't received the memo that he was done. His stats with the Brewers were .232/22/95 which are far below his career levels. All of his important home runs were hit as a member of the Braves (except for 755 which he hit with the Brewers.) So, I don't really understand the love affair, especially with Gen X and Gen Y who weren't even around to see him play in Milwaukee. Henry was every bit as prickly with the media as Barry is, but because Barry is an alleged cheater, Henry is thought of in a much kinder light these days.- Somebody who will never be accused of anything except being a good guy, Tony Gwynn Sr. will be honored with a statue in front of Petco Park.
- A broken shin may end the season for the Mets Jose Valentin. Since the guy plays like he has broken hands, it seems like it could be an upgrade.
- Emmitt Smith shows how little he knows about the trouble Michael Vick is in.
- Scott Olsen has joined Elijah Dukes on the all criminal team.
- Princess saw me reading this over my shoulder and insisted I put it in.

- Your worst nightmare for three hours. BTW, doctors found five polyps and George Bush's head yesterday.
- My oh my, the Presidential race gets interesting. Is Rudy's record really what it seems? Will Barach, if elected, walk picket lines? And will Fred pass his critical fund raising test?
- I don't know if Al Gore is more upset with his son for having marijuana or for smoking it and messing up the ozone layer.
- Memo to AP: There is no such thing as a homophobic slur.
When is probable cause not probable cause? When the cops manipulate it or are the cause of the probable cause. Although I applaud the cops for their ingenuity, the fact is if they can remove you license plate so they can search your car without a warrant, to what limit are you protected from searches and made up arrests. Probable cause and due process are two things that separate our country from a dictatorship.- The Simpson's movie debuts in Springfield.
- BREAKING NEWS FROM BUTKUS D. DOGG: If you are looking to burglarize a building, best not make it one housing a canine unit. Death to Michael Vick. Back to you, bald guy.
