Random Thoughts: Even A Blind Shortstop Finds A Salami Once In A While
Random thoughts while wondering whatever happened to Bill Stein:
Last night,
Juan Uribe proved that if you close your eyes and swing hard, occasionally you'll make contact. That's probably the story behind Uribe's grand salami, part of a five run Sox fourth that helped the Sox to a 7-4 win over Detroit last night. Jermaine Dye also homered for the Sox. Mark Buehrle pitched well, except he almost let Detroit back in the game allowing three runs in the bottom of the fourth after the Sox had taken a 6-0 lead. For a minute, I was having flashbacks to Thursday afternoon where the Sox scored eight runs in the top of the second only to have the Yankees answer with eight of their own in the bottom half of the inning. The White Sox have now scored 20 runs in their last two games. It would be nice if they could continue to hit like this for awhile. The White Sox and Tigers continue their series tonight in Detroit. The Sox win, coupled by the Yankees pasting of Kansas City, gives the Sox a 1½ game cushion in the battle for the basement. The Sox, by the way are within 5½ games of the Twinkies and, if they play well the last two months of the season, have a realistic chance of taking third place in the division. Okay, it's not a trophy, a ring or a championship, but it is momentum heading into 2008. Much like their neighbors to the south, the Brewers erase the memory of an ugly incident with a victory. The Cubs, meanwhile continue to struggle late in the game with their bullpen as Ryan Dumpster Dempster can't hold it in the ninth and the Cubs go on to lose to the Mets. That puts the Crew back on top of the standings with a one game lead. Baroid needs to get this over with. I'm getting tired (literally) of staying up late every night and then going to bed disappointed. Sounds like my college days.
Care to purchase the Yankees? Better rob a bank. Make that several banks in several countries. It should be obvious that no single entity will own the Yankees again. Which is bad for Yankee fans, especially if they have a corporate mentality like CBS, cica 1965. A lot of Yankee fans are tool young to remember the name Michael Burke.
The man who has kept Ron Santo and Bert Blyleven out of the hall of fame, now thinks some things should change. Is it just me or is it way too early for a coaches poll? Don't we actually want to watch a couple of games first before rendering judgment?
Junior is on the pole for this week's Pennsylvania 500. That's great if this were a restricter plate race.
When Jim Harbaugh played for the Bears, I didn't think he was the sharpest knife in the drawer (except compared to Mike Tomczak, but that's another story for a different day.) Apparently, he's proven me right. For all of us who think Sportscenter has become a joke, I encourage you to read this article.
Players are long associated with their numbers. Here are some players that didn't help the association. Here's a look at some of the delicacies you can find all across this great lsand of ours. Bon Appetite!
