Random Holiday Thoughts: Here's Three Words You Haven't Heard Much This Summer: White Sox Win!
Random thoughts while celebrating Labor Day, a day to acknowledge all of the hard working men and women in our country. Ironically, I'll be laboring today.
- The White Sox win! They win big. They win decisively! They score a few runs late in the game! They don't have their bullpen implode on them! Do you believe in miracles? Yes! The bad news? They still trail the Royals by 3½ games. If anything would motivate me the next 28 or so days it would be making damned sure I didn't finish in last place.

- In the NL Central nothing changes. The Cubs, down 5-1 at one point, rally and win on a Derrick Lee homer in the bottom of the eighth. The Brewers get number 40 from Prince Fielder and sweep the Pirates and the Cardinals edge the Reds 3-2. The Cubs still lead the Brewers by 1½ and the Cards by 2.
- A great race for Jimmie Johnson last night in front of the home fans at California. One more race until the chase starts with Dale Junior on the outside looking in 126 points back. If he wants to get in the chase, he'll have to finish in the top 3 ar Richmond and then hope Kevin Harvick blows an engine or gets wiped out.
- More pieces fall out of place for Davewood Bumstedt.
- In an effort to draw attention to the problem of wasted water by running toilets, a security guard tackled a running toilet at the CU-CSU game the other night. I wonder if it was sponsored. Maybe we could work it into the game broadcast, too. Our Denver water "drip of the game" tonight is. . . "
- The Black Widow easily wins the annual Buffalo wing eating contest.
- If you talk on your cellphone in your car within the Chicago city limits, prepare to be boarded. Seriously.
- Today's list: 10 NFL players who need to have a great year, including Cedric Benson.
