Butkus D. Dogg's Friday Fearless Forecast Week 4

I was 8-2 last week (19-6 on the year) and would like to take this opportunity to apologize to Donny and Marie Osmond, Mit Romney, the rotting corpse of Brigham Young and Mormons everywhere for thinking that UCLA could stay on the same field with BYU, let alone possibly upset them.

The fat dog won't let me forget it and keeps sneaking up behind me yelling "Neuheisel" in my ear.

Here's the drill: Five college, five pro, straight up.

College

  • Iowa vs. Pitt: This is a game where both coaches need to win to stay employed.  Iowa looked pretty good against Iowa State while Pitt struggled against Buffalo.  This game is pretty even, so what I do is pick against the coach I think will screw up the most.  That would be Dave.  Take Iowa.
  • Alabama vs. Arkansas: There's never a dull Saturday when the SEC starts playing conference games and even though this game is off the radar, it has big meaning to both teams.  For Bama, it would be a 4-0 start and a win against a conference opponent.  For the Hogs, it would serve notice that Bobby Petrino is building a winner.  I think that for Arkansas, this is a rebuilding year.  For Bama, it's a year where they have huge expectations under Coach Satan.  This is a game Bama has to win.  Take Alabama.
  • Tennessee  vs. Florida: This is not the game of the week in the SEC.  Seriously.  Although this isn't a great Florida team, Tennessee is not very good this year, as evidenced by their loss to the afore mentioned UCLA squad that got embarrassed by BYU.  Take Florida BIG.
  • LSU vs. Auburn: This is by far the most interesting game this week in the SEC.  If you like low scoring defensive games, you've come to the right place. Even after a three point performance against a weak Mississippi State team, Tommy Tuberville somehow finds a way to beat big opponents, especially at home.  The key stat here is passing.  Whoever can untrack their passing game will win this one. Unfortunately for Auburn, that won't be them.  Take LSU.
  • Georgia vs. Arizona State: This is what I call the teaser game of the week (like BYU-UCLA).  Two names you recognize, so you turn it on, settle in and wait for a great game to start and instead it winds up a blowout. One stat leaps off the page at you: Since 2000, ASU is 2-10 against ranked opponents at home.  If UNLV can roll up 120 yards in rushing in the second half against ASU last week, imagine what Knowshon Moreno can do.  Take Georgia by at least two touchdowns.

Pro

  • Tampa Bay vs. Chicago:  If it wasn't for defense and special teams the Bears couldn't score in a whore house will  a roll of hundred dollar bills.  Plus, Brian Griese doesn't get mad, but he will get even. Take the Bucs.
  • Pittsburgh vs. Philly: I don't know about the Eagles.  Lots of turnovers, lots of bonehead plays (spike the ball when you get INTO the end zone)and lots of trying way too hard to forget about last year.  If Big Ben is healthy enough to make a difference, the Eagles will be hurting, especially on six days rest after a physical and emotion game with Dallas. Take the Pittsburgh.
  • Carolina vs. Minnesota: The Panthers may be the surprise team of the NFL this year.  One thing we know about them after two games is that no lead is safe against them.  Given the Vikings inability to score and their collapse last week against the Colts, this should be a fairly good showing for the boys in blue and perhaps the beginning of the Brad Childress farewell tour.   Take Carolina.
  • Jacksonville vs. Hoosiers:  I think the Jags will try to do to the Colts what the Bears did. This time, Peyton Manning will be up to the challenge, although playing without Bob Sanders doesn't help. Still, I think Indy gets it going this week. Take Indy.
  • Cowboys vs. Green Bay: This one is not as close as you think.  The Packers are an okay football team, but the Cowboys are a very good football team.  Green Bay has a propensity for holding, clutching, grabbing, etc. which will bite them in the butt big time Sunday night.  Add to that this is the first quality opponent the Pack has played and you understand that Dallas should cruise. The only thing that possibly could throw the Boys off is if this becomes a trap game and they are looking ahead to next week against the Skins.  But since the Pack is a better team than Washington, I highly doubt it. Take Dallas
