Breaking News: No Argument about it, CUBS ARE THE CHAMPIONS, CUBS ARE THE CHAMPIONS

The slow death march (sorry, too much Ken Burns this week) of the Milwaukee Brewers climaxed tonight as the
Cubs pounded the Redswhile the Brewers lost the lead and bowed to the Padres.

The Cubs win coupled with the Milwaukee defeat means the end of the Brewers post season aspirations.

In Chicago, drunk, entitled yuppies are lifting Old Style and toasting Lou Piniella and the ghost of Harry Caray.

Chicago has not won a baseball championship since 2005 when the White Sox beat the Astros in four games to take home the trophy.  Repeating, the White Sox won the championship in 2005.  They are the only Chicago team to win a championship in the last 99 years.

The Cubs will play an as yet unknown opponent, most likely from the NL West.

For Cub fans who are unfamiliar with the playoff drill let's recap:

  • 1984 Leon Durham misses Steve Garvey's ground ball because he was too busy trying to snort the baselines.
  • 1989 Will Clark goes nuts and sends the Giants to the series causing an earthquake.
  • 1998 How 'bout them Braves?
  • 2003 Steve Bartman, enough said.  Actually, it was Alex Gonzalez, but who am I to argue with a Cub fan, right Roy?
By the way, that high pitched whining sound coming from your radio is local sports talk show host Steve Fifer screaming for the head of Ned Yost.

The Brewers new slogan for 2008 will be "If we don't make it to the playoffs this year, Yost is toast."
