Things That Make Me Say Hmmm, Baseball is Over Edition

Things that make me say hmmm:
  • All hail the Elderly Hillbilly.  Mr. Hillbilly, on behalf of Chicago Bear fans everywhere, congratulations on your recent record setting achievement.  Seeing as how you have nothing left to prove, why don't you retire, preferably before next Sunday.
  • How 'bout them Phillies?  Redemption for 1964, I suppose.  And maybe, with  the Mets choking away a playoff chance and the Cubs getting in, it's reverse 1969 karma.  God, I hope not.
  • The Milwaukee Brewers did accomplish something this year.  They may have kept the Padres out of the playoffs.  Tonight the Pads, who had two chances to clinch a playoff position, meet the Rockies.  Bud Black hopes Jake Peavy doesn't go Tom Glavine on him.
  • It's funny how some of the managers on the block early in the season rallied their teams.  Remember when firing Joe Torre, Charlie Manuel and Clint Hurdle was all the rage?  Yet, their ownership show patience and wanted to keep the continuity and allowed them to do their jobs, which paid dividends in the end as those managers took their teams to "the next level."
  • Looking for a major league managers job?  In the American League, the only openings might be Toronto and Kansas City.  John Gibbons may get the boot from the Blue Jays while Buddy Bell has already announced his retirement. Everyone else is either too new or signed an extension.
  • In the NL, the Cardinals may be looking for a new manager if the genius steps aside.  With a new GM in Pittsburgh, Jim Tracy is likely gone.  Willlie Randolph seems safe for the moment in New York, as does Grady Little in L.A.  The Reds situation is also up in the air.  So, total, AL and NL, there may be five total openings max.
  • How in the hell does LSU climb over USC?  LSU beat Tulane while USC beat Washington.  Maybe CBS wanted the LSU-Florida game to be even sexier Saturday.
  • When you own the rights to "Seinfeld", "Friends" and "Everybody Loves Raymond", why mess with baseball.  That's why after almost 30 years of being a national team on a superstation, WTBS is pulling the plug on Braves baseball.  I've enjoyed watching the Braves over the years, especially that July 4th game with the Mets when Skip and Pete were pretty out of it at the end.  For my own selfish reasons, I hope WGN does not follow suit, although I could totally see them running games locally only.  I think MLB would love that.
  • What a wacky ending for the NASCAR Nextel Cup race in Kansas.  I hope we don't see any more like these.
  • Speaking of NASCAR, why can't people ask drivers if they would like to talk instead of shoving a camera in their face and getting a negative result.
  • Excuse me, Mr. Bradshaw, there is still some stuff on your chin.
