Bears vs. Packers: Bears Gameplan

You want to get Capone?  Here's how you get Capone.  He pulls a knife, you pull a gun.  He sends one of yours to the hospital, you send one of his to the morgue.  That's the Chicago way.

Granted, no one, except maybe a few disgruntled fans will be brandishing weapons when the Bears and Packers get together tonight at Lambeau Field.  But to Bears fans, Brett Favre might as well be Al Capone because for years, he's been public enemy number one.  So, if the Bears are going to win tonight and preserve any chance of getting back in the division race (the Lions have already lost today), here's what they need to do to beat Favre and the Packers:

  • Run The Damn Ball---Cedric Benson needs to show the world why he was a number one pick. Tonight. On TV. Against the Packers. NOW.
  • Don't Pressure Favre---Forget the fancy blitzes or the heavy pressure, Favre always seems to get away from it.  The best way to get to him is cover his receivers and force him to expose himself on the run.  And, if his receivers are covered, he tends to force something which usually leads to a Packers turnover.
  • Let Them Run---The packers running game is as bad as the Bears.  Let them run, none of their backs is a game breaker.  Instead, dare Favre to pass.
  • Turn Turnovers Into Points---Strip them, hack them, pick them.  Then take advantage of them and ram the rock home.
  • Don't Just Defend Driver---The Pack has other weapons, especially James Lee and Bubba Franks.  Watch them too.
  • Separate----The Packers play an old fashioned chuck and run defense.  If you can get outside the five yard halo, you can separate from Al Harris and maybe Charles Woodson.  Crisp routes are essential tonight.
  • Hold On Tight To Your Balls---Memo to Bernard Barrien: I don't give a damn if you put crazy glue on your gloves, you need to catch everything thrown to you tonight.

Good luck, boys.  Maybe unlike the Cubs, you'll win a game this weekend.
