It's All B.S. To Me
I can't understand after watching game after game after game of college football this season how the BCS came out the way it did. Okay, there were upsets on the last weekend and there were teams that lost late, but how it all fell like it did is beyond my comprehension and certainly calls for a playoff system to make it right. There won't be a playoff system however because there is way too much money in bowl games and sharing your bowl money with a sixteen team or eight team field will not cut it in the greed rules all world of college football. This is especially true for the conferences like the Big Ten, SEC and Big 12 that have the best bowl deals.
So, here's my problem with the BS this year:
- I know LSU is a great team, but they lost twice, once two weeks ago. This reeks of the SEC and others pounding the committee for maximum revenue return. After all, since the game is being played in New Orleans, it helps to have LSU in it. Of course, they could have easily played in the Sugar Bowl
- Kansas is a fraud, always was a fraud and will continue to be a fraud when Georgia kicks their sorry ass back to Lawrence. Kansas has no business playing in a BCS game. Missouri got jobbed big time, probably by their own conference. Again, help me understand that Kansas recently was whipped by Missouri and LSU just lost a week ago to unranked Arkansas yet is playing in the championship game? Huh?
- I understand why Georgia didn't get to play Ohio State and if I were Mark Richt, I would immediately remove Rich Brooks from my Christmas card list.
- I think that Va. tech should be playing OSU for the national championship. LSU beat them in September.
- USC vs, Illinois is going to be like Michael Jordan playing HORSE against a third grader. It's too bad conferences are hard wired in to some of these bowl game. Hawaii vs. Illinois would have been much closer and a much more interesting game.
- It's also too bad Hawaii has to play in New Orleans and not Pasadena or Scottsdale so their fans don't have to travel as far. I guess they should be grateful they are not in the Motor City Bowl.
- They really should have had Kansas play Hawaii and called it the Fraud Bowl. Maybe it could be sponsored by the BCS selection committee.
- Memo to the Ohio State Buckeyes: This whining that I'm hearing about how nobody likes you or wants you to win is stupid. You backed in a game you may or may not have belonged in after a one loss season. Nobody would doubt you if you hadn't soiled your shorts against Illinois. So, if you want to blame someone for not thinking you are good enough to beat LSU, look in the mirror.
- It's really sad when the NCAA is so greedy, they sell their Cadillac football event to a network that does no college football and has nobody that talks college football. Fox's bowl show last night was an absolute joke, poorly produced, sophomoric and laking in any tangible insight at all. ESPN spanked them severely.
- Les Miles is staying at LSU. Some thing he's still got an out, I think he's Horton the Elephant and he'll honor his word. By the way, coaches are now trained to say "Nobody has contact me from (school) and I have not talked to anyone from (school). Yeah, but has your agent? We thought so.
- Randy Edsall is staying at UCONN. Or at least not going to Georgia Tech.
- Another opening is about to occur with the removal of Karl Dorrell at UCLA. Steve Mariucci is on the hot list for that one. Apparently no one has studied films of him coaching the Lions.
- Louisville is uncoordinated today.
- Hey, maybe if we set the scoreboard on fire they will let us out of our lease so we can got to Oklahoma City.
- While the " missing man formation" was a nice gesture by the Redskins, they should be fortunate they weren't playing the Colts or a passing team. That could have cost them seven points.
- Carl Crawford is officially off the table. Kenny, you had your chance. Both the Cubs and Sox are trolling for outfielders in Nashville today.
- I don't even want to write about the Bears except to say that they are done, Rex drives me nuts and who kidnapped the defense at halftime. How exactly do you dominate in the first half and then fail to show up on any level in the second. You claim turnovers are key to your success, you force four and you still can't stop Eli (not his brother) Manning coming down the field in the waining minutes. It's over boys. Just please get up for the Packer game.
- When Larry Craig finally does decide to retire from the Senate, perhaps he should get a job in the touring show of "Riverdance." Apparently, the man can tap his feet like Gene Kelly.
