Random Thoughts: Big Stack o' Nothing Edition (Vol. 2)
Random thoughts while wondering whatever happened to Dave Gallagher:
It
appears that Chicago White Sox General manager Kenny Williams is a
collector of sorts. He collects real, live baseball players. And when
he can't get the one he wants, he waits a few years and then acquires him.
Unfortunately, his tastes only extend to the Nick Swishers of the world
and not the A-Rods, Torrie Hunters or anyone who can pitch.- If this rumor regarding Paul Konerko is true,
I would actually sanction it. Usually, if it's too good to be true, it
is. I like Paulie, great guy, good player, but the Sox need some new
blood and Figgins, Kendrick and Santana would be perfect. Plus,
Kendrick ordered the code red.
- Of course other teams will have interest in some of the Bears free agent players. But be realistic. Would you be stupid enough to overpay for Barnard Berrian? He's Willie Gault with less fear.
- I don't understand Scottie Pippin. He rips all of the current Bulls new back sides and then gets bummed when no one will hire him to coach.
Scottie, just because you were a good player (over rated but good)
doesn't mean you know how to coach. And being a good player doesn't
entitle you to that. Of course, the Knicks will have an opening soon if
you want to stick your head into that buzz saw.
- Memo to the Elderly Hillbilly: Look, it's bad enough most of the media in this country drools over you. But let's not use your recent popularity (bordering on hero worship) to spew your uneducated stupidity. Yes, your coach and your team had a great year. But going 16-0 is a monumental achievement and trumps anything your team did this year. Besides, mouth off when you can beat the Bears.
- In today's irony department, the mother of children's son will no longer be playing for the man coach.
- I don't understand why a coach would go from the SEC to the Big 12. It's a sideways move, isn't it? And the SEC is a better conference isn't it? So, why does Will Muschamp feel the need to go sideways? Because Auburn won't pay him what he's worth. Which tells you how good a coach Tommy Tuberville is. He still can attract coaches that win at a school that won't pay.
- R-Rod imports five of his West Virginians to Michigan. In College Station, Mike Sherman likes Herring. Elsewhere, Bobby Petrino announces the new hog crew. Here's some career advice for Petrino's new staff: Don't unpack. He won't.
- I've written about this before, but I get really annoyed when my tax dollars are spent asking baseball players self serving questions. Doesn't congress have anything better to do?
- Here's
another thing I fail to comprehend. The guy who was paralyzed in the
bar fight in Las Vegas is not only suing Pacman Jones, but the Titans organization.
The lawyer for the plaintiff says that because Jones was a Titans
employee, the team is liable for his actions and if he had not been an
NFL star, he would have not been in Vegas and none of this would ever
happened. The Titans are trying to get this thrown out of court saying
that they have nothing to do with it. The bottom line is no one running
for President has mentioned torte reform because they are either
lawyers themselves or owned by lawyers. Claiming the Titans had
anything to do with is stupid at face value, but there is precedence.
Until we get judges who will laugh this stuff out of court or limits on
who you can and can't sue, our court dockets will continue to be as
clogged as Mark Mangino's arteries.
