Where's the Justice Now, Fellas?
I don't watch the Golf Channel, nor have I ever seen Kelly Tilghman on the air, but I can tell you one thing: She's damned lucky she's not a middle aged white guy. And even though she isn't, how in the name of justice does she get away with saying all these young guys should lynch Tiger Woods in a back alley? Don Imus got fired for saying "nappy headed hos." He was accosted by both Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson who beat up NBC and threatened advertisers until the Peacock said Uncle. Al Campanis, a lifelong baseball man was fired for making an offhanded comment about African-Americans on "Nightline." Jimmy the Greek was fired by CBS for insensitive remarks. Howard Cosell, a champion of African-Americans was taken off the air because he referred to Alvin Garrett as a monkey (as in "look at that little monkey run.") In all of these cases no one ever used the word "lynched." Does this woman have a freakin' clue what a lynching is? Or how popular they were just forty years ago?
Unless the Golf Network's research shows that the majority of their viewers are members of the KKK, this woman should be out on her ass TODAY. The apology offered by the network and the "private meeting with Tiger" are irrelevant. This woman advocated something that is vile and heinous and a whole lot worse than "nappy headed hos" ever was. Yet for some strange reason, as of this moment, she's still on the payroll at the Golf Channel. Imagine if she was with a network that mattered like CBS or ESPN and the furor the remark would have caused then.
Where is the outcry? Where are Butch Crywolf and the Clueless Kid? Where is the threatening of advertisers (assuming they have them on the Golf Channel again, I'm not a viewer.) Where are the liberal hacks busting Kelly Tilghman's chops (Keith, you know who you are) and demanding her ouster and banishment form all of broadcasting? Where are the newspaper columns, the talk shows, the debates among the liberal elite? Where's Bob Lea? Skip Clueless? Jay Mariotti? Phil Mushnick? Richard Sandomir?
When it was Imus, it was the most racist, vile thing ever said. Yet, when a person actually uses the name of an African-American in a sentence with the word "lynch" a tree has apparently fallen on the golf course and no one has heard it. Even as insignificant as the Golf Channel seems to be, the woman said the words "Tiger" and "Lynch" into a microphone on the air in the same sentence and still has a job. And no one gives a damn.
Remember that the next time Imus says the wrong thing. Remember that the next time Butch and The Kid ride into town demanding a scalp. Remember that the next time any middle aged white guy like Rush Limbaugh or Howard Cosell or Tim Russert or Howard Stern says something deemed inappropriate by the liberals and the ambulance chasers.
When Imus was fired, Butch and the Kid wanted justice. Where's the justice now, fellas?
Lighting Round
- Just a couple of years ago, Javon Walker bitched and moaned and got his happy butt traded out of Green Bay. He didn't learn a damn thing.
- Jim Dooley, former head coach of the Bears from 1968-1971 passed away yesterday at 77. Dooley is the poster boy for the coach that is a great assistant but a not so good top dog.
- Is Arthur Blank oblivious to the fact that Pete Carroll didn't have a whole lot of success in the NFL?
- I feel bad for Jim Bates. He's a good man who did a great job in Green Bay who got canned by Denver yesterday. The fact is he was working for a head coach who can back the bus over anyone he wants without ever having to worry about his own accountability.
- The bus (or perhaps several surf boards) ran over Hawaii athletic director Herman Fraizer yesterday, too. Somebody had to take the fall for June Jones leaving. Given the job Herm did at UAB and Hawaii, he'd better bank the severance check.
- Eddie Guardado is about to sign with the Texas Rangers. However, due to ongoing issues with injuries, he's been downgraded from "Everyday Eddie" to "A couple times a month if we're lucky Eddie"
- Looking for a Cinderella for your brackets in March? Here's one to keep an eye on.
- Good luck Mike Nolan!
- Pat Riley is thinking about leaving coaching after this season. Until his replacement builds the team back up. Then he'll fire him, take over the team and win another ring. Life's a lot easier when you don't have to work so hard.
- Some outstanding humor out there on the interweb. Brahsome.com has an interesting take on who should replace Joe Gibbs, Deadspin features Brett Favre and the men that love him and another hilarious installment on the Wade and Jerry saga from Kissing Suzy Kolber.
