Butkus D. Dogg's Fearless Friday Forecast (Week 20)
Boy, did I have a rough weekend last weekend going 1-3. The Packers beating Seattle didn't surprise me, but the Chargers taking out the Colts was very unexpected. Even the Fat Dog was surprised. He keeps mumbling "I can't believe Peyton is out" all the time and walks into walls. I don't know what to do, so I do nothing. On the year, I'm 112-78 with three games left, so I have an outside shot at becoming the first 115 win dog in history. It may not mean much to you, but I'll bet it gnaws on Scooby Freakin' Doo. At least he gets to sit on Daphne's lap. Of course, so does Freddie, but I don't want to betray any confidences here.
Two games, straight up. Load the cannons.
San Diego vs. New England: Yeah, it's a really nice story, those Chargers. And in a perfect world, they would go into New England, heavy underdogs, and somehow beat the undefeated Patriots. But in an imperfect world, L.T. and Phillip Rivers are banged up Antonio Gates is hobbling around on one leg. Let's be real. The game is in Foxboro and the Patriots are healthy, rested and focused. Take New England.
New York vs. Green Bay: I actually think beating the Cowboys was tougher for the Giants than playing the Packers. Here's the difference. If Green Bay pays any kind of attention to the films of the Giants-Cowboys game, they know the reason the Giants won is because the Cowboys offensive line totally imploded. The question is, can the Packers offensive line stand up to the Giants pressure. Don't worry about Brett Favre. He always finds a way. But will he constantly be flushed and bullied by the Giants pass rush? The second factor is can the Giants run the ball on the Packer defense and can their receivers be physical enough with the Packer DBs? I've given this a lot of thought and I think the deciding factor is on a day where the temperature will be near zero at kickoff, you have to give a slight edge to the home team. Take Green Bay.
