Random Thoughts: Farmio vs. Stoney Round 1
Random thoughts while wondering whatever happened to Pete Filson:
- Yesterday was the first White Sox radio game featuring the new team of Ed Farmer and Steve Stone. If you listened to the voices, not the content, you'd pick up on a few things. One, Stone was acting as gracious as possible trying to give Farmer all possible latitude. Farmer, on the other hand kept cutting Stone off and continued his bad habit of talking about me, me, me. The most important thing a play by play has to do is control the flow of the game. Nobody in history is worse than that than Ed Farmer. Was it a better broadcast? Yes. Was it as good as most of the teams in major league baseball? No. Sorry. I do like what Teddy Greenstein said this morning, that maybe it is Farmer on notice this year. If he wasn't such a love of The Chairman's life, someone would have tossed his sorry butt out years ago. Of course, the Sox made it clear that someone good like John Rooney is not worth paying them.
- The White Sox get hammered not once but twice yesterday losing 10-0 and 11-1. It looks like Lance Broadway has earned himself a bus ticket back to Charlotte.
Oneili Perez will be sitting right next to him. With Javy Vasquez out
until Monday, the poor performances of Sox pitchers yesterday
(Broadway, Perez, Nick Massett, Carlos Vasquez) shows how poor the
organizational depth in pitching is.
- It's nice to see Bobby Hull, Stan Mikita and Tony Esposito back with the Blackhawks.
For those of us old enough to remember when the NHL was bigger than the
NBA, last night was a great night. Too bad the Hawks didn't win. But in
a way they did. The best news is the Hawks are a rising young team that
finally did two things it needed to do: Embrace it's past and send Bob
Pulford away.
- Wow, with Marty Booker and Brandon Lloyd in the fold, the bears may actually generate enough offense to finish ahead of Detroit in third place.
- Apparently, just the mere example of The Elderly Hillbilly can cure the world of all its ills. Here's the thoughts of someone who has had way too much Green & Gold Kool Aid (link from The Big Lead)

- Our God is an awesome God!
- Another example of why we really need to focus this November in ridding ourselves of asshat legislators who worry more about sports on cable TV than they do the economy.
- The Bears miss another chance to write the ship. Of course, the player in question probably has some inside information on how screwed up the Bears actually are.
- See, the Giants did it right. You reward the coach that WINS the super bowl, not loses it. Right, Bears?
