They Shoot, They Score: White Sox Team Up With Hawks For Cross Marketing

In what may be the first (but certainly not the last) of it's kind, the White Sox and Blackhawks have entered into a marketing agreement helping to promote each others brands. (Business of Baseball)

What makes this rare, if not a first, is that the teams have entirely different ownership.

The biggest beneficiary of this agreement are the Hawks who are looking for vehicles to build their season ticket base up after several years in the wilderness.  The agreement would allow them to "sample the Sox cume" and build off the excitement of a near playoff year and some exciting young players.

The Sox will have video of Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews on the video board at Comiskey Park U.S. Cellular Field this afternoon during the home opener.

I would imagine that if Denis Savard wanted to upgrade his defensemen, both Nick Swisher and Paul Konerko could avail themselves.  After all, Paulie wanted to be a hockey player at one time anyway.  Swish is just seems like a hockey type guy.

Here are some quick, out of the box, joint marketing ideas for the two teams:

  1. When the Blue Jays come to town, have Hawks coach Denis Savard sing the national anthem...in French.
  2. Have a steel cage match between Hawks enforcer Adam Burish and the Sox AJ Pierzynski.
  3. Shoot a puck into Ozzie Guillen's mouth night.
  4. Have a joint "bring back the stiffs" night where Alex Zhamnov and Darin Erstad can throw out the first pitch.
  5. Put Juan Uribe on skates...just for the hell of it.
  6. Starting in goal tonight for the Blackhawks...Bobby Jenks.
