Random Thoughts: Weaver Signing A Mercy (Date)?

Random thoughts while wondering whatever happened to Lerrin LaGrow:

  • The Milwaukee Brewers signing of Jeff Weaver may be deeper than you think.  Weaver is represented by Scott Boras, the same Scott Boras who represents Prince Fielder.  Helping a Boras client get back to work no doubt resonates with Boras.  This is an olive branch extended by Doug Melvin to try and get a deal done for Fielder. It doesn't matter if Weaver can pitch or not, what matters is Melvin did Boras a favor.  Now Melvin should expect Boras to at least amp up the Prince talks.  It's sort of like a Godfather movie when you get right down to it.
  • Jim Thome's suspension probably would have been worse if he wasn't the fine example of composure that he usually is.  Meanwhile, Jose Guillen, convicted cheater, plays on with no suspension.  Tell me baseball is fair.
  • Leave it to the NHL to make a new rule outlawing something that didn't exist the day before.  Sean Avery didn't do anything illegal and actually was pretty innovative in his taunting of Marty Brodeur
  • I was always a big supporter of Ryan Sweeney, so his success in Oakland does not surprise me.  Still having Nick Swisher around is probably best for both teams.
  • Is it time to hand Mike MacUseless a bus ticket yet?  Please?
