Finished or be Finished

There are things you have to do if you want to get to the playoffs.  You need to win games against divisional opponents.  You need to beat the weak sisters.  You need to protect a two run lead in the ninth inning.  If you can't do that, well, go ahead and schedule your early October tee time now.

Last night, the Chicago White Sox had an opportunity to extend their win streak to three games.  The Sox were fortified in this effort with home runs by Carlos Quentin (2) and Joe Crede.  Pink Gavin Floyd pitched five brilliant innings before surrendering a two run, game tying home run in the sixth.  The Sox then picked him up with back to back jacks by Quentin and Crede to make it 4-2 and an additional home run by Quentin to make it 5-2 as they went to the bottom of the ninth.

Then, Bobby Jenks, usually automatic in this situation, started channeling Mike MacUseless.

With two outs and a runner on second, Jenks surrendered a double to Brian Roberts and a single to Melvin Mora, tying the game at five. In the bottom of the tenth, Boone Logan gave up two walks before Adam Jones, who was 0-3, singled to end it.

Boys, I hate to be Captain Obvious here, but you just can't lose games like this.  And now the Sox move on to Tampa, a stadium they don't necessarily play well in.  At least this might be a fun series.  These ain't your Daddy's Devil Rays.  These Devil Rays are leading the league in home runs right now, so it should be a bombfest.

And if you can't finish off the woeful O's, good luck against big boys like Boston, New York and Cleveland.

The bottom line is, let's have no more games like last night where the Sox did everything to win and couldn't finish.T
