Kids Say the Darnedest Things
I heard two strange comments prior to yesterday's (Sunday's) White Sox game on the White Sox flagship WSCR:
- Prior to the pre-game, there was a show called "Hit & Run" with hosts George Ofman and Jesse Rogers. At the end of the show, Rogers was talking about how for the next weekend's show, he was going to get a former Baltimore Oriole on the show for an interview to discuss the history of the rivalry between the Orioles and the Sox (the Sox and Orioles play next weekend at the Cell.) Rogers said "I'm going to get Mark Belanger or Boog Powell or one of those old Orioles on with us." Um, Jesse. It might take Belanger a while to return your phone call. You see, he's been dead since 1998. Perhaps Dave McNally. Oh, wait. Dead, too. Might we suggest Luis Aparicio or Don Buford who played for both teams and unlike Belanger and McNally are actually still able to do interviews without the aid of a medium.
- During the pre-amble to the game yesterday, Sox play by play voice Ed Farmer mentioned that his regular partner, Steve Stone, was off celebrating "Hanukkah" with his family. Um, Farmio, I think you mean Passover (Farmio got it right later in the game.) If this was a malaprop, it showed a lack of sensitivity for Jewish-Americans and a lack of respect for his partner. By the way, Ed, your boss, the Chairman is Jewish. I wonder what he thought.
