White Sox Fail First Litmus Test Due To Penned Up Hostility

Some quick observations following the White Sox 9-5 loss in their series opening game against Yankees:

  • Jose Contreras pitched pretty well last night, especially when he got  duck snorted to death in the first inning.
  • The Sox are still in the habit of getting a few runs early and then trying to sit on the lead.  You can't do that and be successful against good teams like the Yankees.
  • Jermaine Dye left six men on base last night.  This needs to change quickly.
  • Jim Thome and Paul Konerko seem to be returning to their 2006 glory where pitchers would pitch around Thome and Konerko would make them pay.
  • The Sox flashed the leather earlier in the game.  An awesome, Roberto Clemente class throw by Jermaine Dye in the top of the fourth kept Robinson Cano from tagging up at second and advancing to third and Joe Crede made an awesome play on a Derek Jeter dribbler in the fifth.
  • Boone Logan continues to struggle.  Please grow back the Abe beard ASAP.
  • Octavio Dotel is Spanish for Mike MacDougal
  • You get a run in your half of the seventh cutting the lead down to two and getting some of the momentum back on your side.  Then, you start the eighth with a walk.  You get one out and give up a single.  Then you get the second out on a fielder's choice.  Two outs and all you have to do is get Johnny Damon.  In that too much to ask Matt Thornton?  Apparently so.
  • Speaking of MacUseless, he does a real nice job when the game is out of reach.
  • Joba Chamberlain looks like the 2005 edition of Bobby Jenks. With all due respect to Hammering Hank Steinbrenner, the man is a closer, not a starter.
  • I thought the Sox fixed the bullpen.
