Dye is Cast For Changes

With a groin injury rendering starting Chicago White Sox right fielder Jermaine Dye questionable for tonight's game against Baltimore, Sox manager Ozzie Guillen has some decisions to make.

Most likely, the Sox skipper will put rookie Alexi Ramirez in center and move Nick Swisher to right.  My suggestion is to play Brian Anderson in center simply to determine what he can do with multiple at bats.  Of course, this suggestion will fall on deaf ears as Guillen favors Ramirez, a.k.a. the Cuban Missile.  Sadly, Anderson may end his major league career with the Sox without a sustained opportunity to show if he's improved.

If the Sox were smart, they may consider the 15 day DL for Dye since following this series they play on turf on Toronto and Minnesota and that will no doubt further aggravate the injury.  But, Dye has had so much success against the Orioles that Guillen most likely will want him on the bench for the weekend series against the O's.  If worse came to worse, Guillen could give Jim Thome a day off and let Dye DH, provided he can run the bases.

Should Dye earn a stint on the DL, the Sox would almost certainly bring up outfielder Jerry Owens from Charlotte, play him in center and Swisher in right.  If Owens proves successful, Anderson would most likely be the odd man out.

Keep tuned, folks.  This should be interesting.
