Fool Me Once, Shame On You; Fool Me Twice and I'm Jerry Angelo

All in all, it was a pretty good draft for the Chicago Bears.  They got a new left tackle, which was clearly their biggest area of need.  They got a running back who hopefully will push Cedric Benson (preferably to the Arena Football League) and a wide receiver (although I would have preferred Early Doucet.)  They even got a defensive back who hits like a ton of bricks (although he runs like he has a ton of bricks strapped to his back.)

Not a bad bounty for a team that had more holes in it than Alpine Swiss Cheese.  A quarterback would be nice (Green Bay drafted two and they actually have at least one decent one.)

But, for their second pick in the third round, the Bears surprised the football world by selecting defensive tackle Marcus Harrison of Arkansas.

It's not to say Harrison isn't a good player.  Many believe that if it wasn't for injuries, he could have gone as high as the first round.  But that's not Harrison's only issue.  He's got some legal baggage as well.

Last year, prior to the season, Harrison was pulled over by police who found him in possession of Ecstasy and a couple of marijuana cigars.  This was also a primary reasons many teams looked the other way at his talent.  Jerry Angelo didn't.

The question you have to ask yourself is after recently ridding yourself of one troubled defensive tackle (Tank Johnson) are the Bears ready to play nanny to another one.  Sure Harrison insists his past is behind him, but the pressure of playing in the NFL and the temptations and loneliness of the third largest market in the NFL have a way to turn young men jelly.  Will Harrison backslide and go back to his using ways?  And if he does, how many chances will he get with the Bears.

There is no doubt Harrison, if he stays on the straight and narrow can help this team.  Tommie Harris is oft injured and soon to enter into contract talks.  Dusty Dvoracek continues to spend more time on the IR than the field.  A healthy, happy, Harrison could be a real steal in the third round.  The biggest question is can he do it without turning into Tank Johnson.
