Boof! Boof! Out Go the Lights
The Chicago White Sox "Remember 2007" world tour stopped in Minneapolis last night as the Sox dropped a 3-1
decision to the Twinkies.
As in 2007, the Sox offense failed to make it off the plane, save for a Joe Crede home run. Pink Gavin Floyd pitched well, but gave up a two run home run to Jason Kubel in a three run fourth inning that was his only bad one of the night.
The Sox meanwhile couldn't get to Minnesota starter Boof Bonser. They had their chance in the first with runners at first and second and two outs, but Jermaine Dye struck out to end the threat. In the eighth, the Sox had one out and Nick Swisher on first with the potential tying run, Jim Thome at the plate. Thome drove a ball to deep left field off of reliever Dennis (have another donut) Reyes, but Delmon Young not only made a nice catch, he hit the cutoff man who zinged it to first doubling up Swisher in the process.
Bonser was successful in quieting Carlos Quentin who was 0-3. Jermaine Dye, coming off a groin injury was 0-4.
The Sox and Twins play daytime baseball today with Nick Masset giving the Sox starters a chance to reset. The Sox may want to consider giving several of their struggling regulars the day off. Paul Konerko (.221), Jim Thome (.216) could get a day off today. If it were up to me, I would start Swisher at first, Anderson in center, Joe Crede at DH, Alexi Ramirez at second, Juan Uribe at short and Pablo Ozuna at third. Might as well since the big boys aren't hitting anyway.
Speaking of not hitting, Nick Masset better keep runners close today as Toby "Spaghetti Arm" Hall most likely will be behind the plate.

- The Sox and Orioles will finish their suspended game in August. They will be playing in Baltimore. This should be interesting from a roster perspective if both teams have trading deadline fire sales.
- There is talk the Sox may be close to brining back outfielder Jerry Owens. The question is who do you send down. Although the early money is on Brian Anderson, I'd send down Alexi Ramirez. He looks totally over matched at the plate right now. Yes, he can play infield and outfield, but so can Pablo Ozuna and Juan Uribe can play both second and short.
