Silly Sox Fans Can't Rattle Ranger

I listened to part of the post game show on the Score yesterday and I have to admit, Ranger Rongey is growing on me.  As a talk show host, he has the patience of Jobe.  Yesterday, he dealt with some fans who were so far out of the realm of reality, I thought they were Cub fans.  And Ranger, to his credit, kept his cool.

I appreciate that as I know I was getting a little impatient with some of these jokers.  Ranger did a very diplomatic job, unlike other hosts I've heard that are five foot nothing, have huge heads and are named after fire dogs.

I agree with him 100% that speed won't help this team if it can't get on base.  And, for all the bandwagon jumpers who are convinced that Jerry Owens is some  kind of savior, guess again.  One guy said over and over again, "we don't know what Jerry Owens can do."  I disagree.  Owens can hit .236 and throw like a girl.

Then, there are the guys who live in their mother's basement that think trades are the answer.  "We have to trade Dye" or "we have to trade Thome."  Look, if you have a Yugo with 125,000 miles on it, you are not going to get a worthy vehicle in return.  Dye, Thome and Konerko have no trade value at this point and their inability to hit drives it down daily.  Besides, most teams want young players with minimum contracts, not veterans with big contract. And, as veterans, all of the three have the right to veto any trade. Oh, that didn't dawn on you.  Yeah, I guess you don't have those rules in your Obi Wan Konobe fantasy league.

Somebody suggested trading Dye to the Orioles for Brian Roberts.  Unlike fantasy baseball, that makes no sense.  The Orioles are having a solid year and don't need an aging DH when they have a bunch of bright, young players.

Finally, there are those that want to fire hitting coach Greg Walker and first base coach Harold Baines.  Again, I agree with Ranger.  If Greg Walker's job is to prepare hitters, then he's doing his job.  His hitters are all veterans who are all pressing right now.  If you were to fire Walker, then you'd have to fire the entire team.

The one guy wanted to fire Baines because he says Baines doesn't yell loud enough to players to get back to first.  How exactly getting a louder first base coach translates into winning divisional games, playoff games and championships has yet to be determined.
