Doug Melvin Probably Thinks I'm An Idiot

Yesterday, there were stories about the possible demise of Milwaukee Brewers manager Ned Yost, a popular topic of discussion among the locals here on the business side of the cheese curtain.  Yost is about as popular with Brewer fans as Budweiser.

A primarily political blog called "Badger Blogger" reported late Sunday that sources told them that the Brewers would make a change on Monday.  Early Monday, the Brewers blog in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel said their sources said that no such action would be taken.

Given the Brewers five game losing streak, their last place standing and the damning comments of prized slugger Ryan Braun, conditions were at least favorable for considering such a move, which is why I ran with it.

Later in the day, the MJS quoted Brewers General manager Doug Melvinas saying he doesn't respond to blogs because "anyone can put anything out there.

Speaking for THIS blog, I generally report on what I see and offer commentary.  So, responding to the story, as the MJS did and as Deadspin did (hours after I did), doesn't make bloggers evil.  And, with every news gathering organization, be it a blog, a sports radio station or a TV station, your information is as good as your sources.  If someone in the organization that you know and trust tell you "Yost is going to get fired", you normally weigh it and go with it if you feel it is credible.  At least that's our policy here.

I've read Badger Blogger for a long time and generally they seem like a decent web site.

I am taking pains here to point out that on this site, I don't make the news, I only comment on what I see and hear.   True, the guy at Badger Blogger could have made it up, but I highly doubt that.  And even if he did, the story was out there and I felt like saying something about it.

I'm tired of reading and seeing judgmental people like Bob Costas paint all bloggers with the brush of being crack pots or hacks.  Some may be, but I don't read or subscribe to those.  Nor do I write one.
