Offense Not Lovie's Forte
It gets tougher and tougher being a Bear fan. You thought after we survived 6 years of Davewood Bumstedt that the sun would shine, the clouds would part and we'd be home free. That hasn't happened yet. And it may not as long as Lovie Smith continues to throw the switches.
Smith says he will not go out and get a veteran running back to compete with rookie Matt Forte. Even though the Bears running back roster is down to Forte, Adrian (Third Down Only) Peterson and a midget, Smith is confident the rookie from Tulane is the man.
What Lovie and perhaps his boss Jerry Angelo forget is that there is strength and comfort in numbers. If you go out and get a Shawn Alexander or a Kevin Jones right now, you have them in camp, learning your system right now instead of Forte getting hurt and them scrambling around trying to get some one new acclimated. It's football 101 that players get injured and depth wins in the NFL. Look at New England for crying out loud.
This is not a commentary on how effective or ineffective Matt Forte will be as a pro football player, but more along the lines that somebody named P.J. Pope is not going to be the answer if Forte gets hurt or needs a blow. With the fact that the Bears have two mediocre quarterbacks and no wide receivers, running the football may be the only way the Bears can advance it on offense.
Please guys, use your heads. Just once.
