Breaking News: Sox Trade For Ken Griffey Junior

Huh?  Are you kidding me?  In a trade that makes absolutely no sense to me, the White Sox have apparently traded for Junior Griffey, provided Junior approves the trade.  Personally, they would have done better trading for Dale Earnhardt Junior.  Is Kenny Williams still calling the shots or do Hawk Harrelson stage a coup?

In discussing what the Sox need to get to the playoffs, no one thought it was another aging, brittle slugger who spends more time on the DL then he does on the field.  For crying out loud, he's hitting .245.  Maybe that's better than Paulie, but is this really necessary.

The biggest question every Sox fan has is what do you do with the guy?  If you DH him, you might as well release Jim Thome.   If you play him in center, you understand he is not the outfielder he was when he was making highlight reel plays for Seattle.  He's much slower and can hurt himself just by getting within five feet of Jermaine Dye or Carlos Quentin.

Okay, so now we've decided on center.  Where does that leave Nick Swisher and Paul Konerko?  Does this mean Konerko is going to pretty much spend the rest of the year as a right handed DH and pinch hitter?  It's obvious this trade makes gives Ozzie Guillen options but also disrupts the clubhouse.

And, the story nobody has right now.  What price did the Sox pay to acquire Junior?  I'm think definitely Brian Anderson.  Possibly a reliever like Matt Thornton or Boone Logan.  And a minor leaguer.  It almost makes you think that Kenny has something brewing with the Diamondbacks, probably the only place Paul Konerko would consider, for Konerko.  After all, they were hot for Mark Texteria.

I love Kenny Williams but this one I'm not sure about.  Unless it leads to some other trades that explain things. Of course, I doubted the trade for Q too (so did you, admit it) and Kenny made everyone look bad on that one.

Stay tuned, this should be an interesting day.
