Random Shots: No Trades For You

Random shots while wondering whatever happened to Willie Harris:
  • I don't expect the White Sox to do anything at the trade deadline.  If they do, it's because Scott Linebrink's injury is more severe than we have been led to believe.  I doubt a starting pitcher will make a difference.  Jose Contreras will be back soon and Clayton Richards is a worthy alternative if Contreras is out for any length of time.
  • The White Sox have little to trade.  The only players on the major league roster they could move would be Brian Anderson and Juan Uribe. Joe Crede will survive the deadline because he is on the DL couldn't have an immediate impact. Josh Fields isn't going anywhere, although I believe his callup did have a "showcasing" element to it.  If I could find a taker for Javy Vazquez that was equitable, I'd do it in a heartbeat.  Everybody else is probably safe.  With the Tigers downsizing and the Twins probably standing pat, it really makes no sense for Kenny to mortgage the future in an attempt to tweak the roster.  Huston Street would be fine, but who would Billy Beane demand in exchange?  Most likely a package of young players including Clayton Richard, Lance Broadway and others.  I don't think it's worth it.
  • Back to the Tigers, what kind of trade was that?  Kyle Farnsworth for Pudge Rodriguez straight up?  I wouldn't make that trade in a fantasy league.  Clearly, the Yankees got the better end of it.

  • A man who runs a league with thugs and crooked referees and mentored the train wreck that is Gary Bettman is now telling baseball what to do.
  • This Cubs fan beating Sox fan story has taken on a life of it's own.  Richard Roeper makes a lot of sense to me this morning.
  • The big series between the Cubs and the is Brewers turning into a rout for the Cubs.  Some think if the Brewers lose today, it may cost Brewers Manager Ned Yost his job.  I used to defend Ned, but I think if they did make a change, that might help.  It worked in 1982.
  • C.C. Sabathia has a heart as big as his stomach.
  • Being from the Midwest, the Packers try to implement the concept of crop rotation on Brett Favre.  You know, paying him for NOT doing anything this year.  The longer it takes GM Ted Thompson to work a trade, the worse it gets for the organization.  And other teams know this and surely won't help them. (Pro Football Talk)
  • If you are a Packers fan depressed about Aaron Rodgers being your starting quarterback, it could be worse.  Much worse.  (Windy City Gridiron)
  • The biggest name right now in the trade rumors is Manny Ramirez, who has worn his welcome out in Boston.  This could bite the Red Sox down the stretch, but this war of words is way out of control and is way beyond "Manny being Manny."
