Did Anyone Get The Number of the Truck That Hit the White Sox?
Each season, there are a handful of games that a team looks at that got away. And, in some cases, those games are the difference between winning a division, winning a wild card or setting an early October tee time. Last night, the White Sox looked like a team that wants to play golf in October. You take an early 4-0 lead, but once again can't add to it. Your defense lets you down and then just like that, so does your bullpen. And your base running. And then, poof, a two run, ninth inning bomb and you are back to being tied with the Twinkies.
Jack Freakin' Cust? Didn't it take him like 27 years to get to the majors?
Hawk Harrelson said it absolutely correctly at the end of the game last night: "If you don't think a win like this is going to wake these guys up, you are sadly mistaken." Oakland, losers of all but five games since the All-Star break. The White Sox, 6-28 and counting at the Mausoleum. And the A's know, no matter how bleak it looks, they can still beat the Sox at home whenever they want.
If this doesn't turn your stomach lining into Jello, nothing will.
Lightning Round
- The Sox will be on semi-national television this afternoon in a game we will actually be getting here in the Milwaukee area. Former Braves and O's Pitching Coach Leo Mazzone is doing color for FOX and I am anxious to hear what he thinks of some of the Sox pitchers.
- MLB Trade Rumors has been following the non-trade of Jarod Washburn to the Twinkies. If the M's really turned down either Boof Bonser or Nick Blackburn plus salary relief for Washburn, then they are idiots. The fact that the Twinkies would have parted with one of their young guns plus cash to acquire a proven major league starter should send a chill up your spine if you are a Sox fan.
