Red Sox Lay Smackdown on Ozzie's Kids
That was ugly. You thought maybe the White Sox got it all out of their system on Wednesday and with a day off on Thursday, they would come back refreshed, relaxed and ready to hammer the Boston Red Sox. In the words of a famous college football commentator "not so fast, my friend." Dustin Pedroia (or as Bosox announcer Jerry Remy says "Pedroier") had a big night last night and Mark Kotsay contributed in his Bosox debut as the Chicago White Sox, apparently still enjoying a day off, stunk up Fenway Park with their second consecutive loss by eight runs.
While it's too early to panic, it is not too early to be concerned. I don't mind losing the extra inning games or 4-3 or 1-0, but getting blown out twice in a row makes me a little nervous. Imagine how Ozzie Guillen must feel.
The White Sox still have not solved Daisuke Matsuzaka. This does not bode well if these two teams meet in the playoffs. Sadly, the Clay Bucholtz free spot on the bingo board has been removed from the equation.
Meanwhile, in a galaxy far, far away, the Twinkies got off the mat.
Javy Vazquez pitched okay but got no support. The horse was already out of the barn when four White Sox relievers not named Dotel gave up three runs. Even if the White Sox get Scott Linebrink back, they still have to get to him. This becomes an issue when John Danks and Javy Vazquez can't hang in there through at least six. And it's even more of a problem when the vaulted White Sox offense score only three runs in eighteen innings.
It's even a bigger problem when you consider that of the last seven games, four have been against possible playoff teams and the White Sox are 1-3 and have looked pretty awful in all of them. If it wasn't for A.J.'s Oscar winning performance last Sunday, the Sox would be 0-4 and showing anyone who can see that even if they win the Central, they are a not ready for prime time player.
It's the same two teams tonight from Fenway.
Lightning Round
- Despite Barach Obama being a White Sox fan, Ozzie Guillen (who, you may recall became an American citizen a couple of years ago) hasn't decided who he is going to vote for yet. Too bad you are busy next week Ozzie because there is an event I wish you could go to.
