Satan Holds That Tiger
Random Shots on yesterday's opening Saturday of college football:
The biggest surprise to me yesterday was Alabama manhandling Clemson 34-10. From the opening gun yesterday, Alabama looked like a team possessed while Clemson looked like a deer in the headlights. Many of Nick Saban's new recruits figured in the win and even quarterback John Parkerhouse RollsParker-Wilson looked good (although I still think he is the second coming of Rex Grossman.) Note to Bama fans: Clemson is not LSU, Georgia, Tennessee or Auburn. Just wanted to make sure you knew that before you called your travel agent today because you thought about booking a trip to Miami in January.- The Clemson loss yesterday tells you everything you need to know about ACC football this year. With the Virginia Tech loss to Eastern Carolina, USC with maybe the most impressive performance of the day dissecting Virginia and .North Carolina State getting hammered Thursday night by South Carolina, it only goes to prove that the ACC is the weakest major conference in football.
- Ohio State wins the game easily, but it still had it's scary moments. Even if Chris Wells is out a week or two, it really shouldn't matter, OSU has some serious depth. Besides, outside of Penn State and maybe Wisconsin, who scares you in the Big Ten? That's what I thought.
- All of you wacky Illinois fans who thought that the ride would last, welcome to reality.
- Wisconsin opened with a large win over Akron. I guess Waukesha North High School already had a game planned. Come on, Badgers. If you want people to take you seriously, then quit playing crappy opponents early. Play somebody that matters, so when you get to the conference season, you will at least be tested. Same for you, Oklahoma. And you too, Kansas. Mark Mangino sure likes cream puffs. And I guess he likes to schedule them too.
- Those teams in the SEC that were expected to win did including Georgia (which wasn't as impressive as a number one should be against a weaker opponent) and Florida (which was very impressive.) Auburn which was okay and Arkansas, who was unimpressive but got it done. Meanwhile, sometimes you get Croomed and sometimes you Croom somebody else. In fact, MSU's loss has been the only loss in the conference thus far this weekend (until Kentucky plays Louisville today.)
- .Jerry Kill can flat out coach. He damn near knocked off Minnesota last night.
- Rich Rod falls flat in his debut with Michigan. This may be the longest year in Michigan football history since Bump Elliott was the coach. Honestly, Michigan has never had a coach with a Michigan career losing record EVER. Sadly, Michigan had several chances to win it down the stretch, but couldn't execute.
