Quentin Going Dowm Means Sox Leaders Have to Step Up

Hopefully, while Carlos Quentin is undergoing rehab for his soon to be surgically repaired wrist, he'll also take some time and undergo anger management.  Not to disrespect the most consistent player on the Chicago White Sox this year, but really dude, how could you?  You let your team down in a pennant crunch by injuring yourself in a way that could have been avoided.  It wasn't like you hurt yourself during play, you took yourself out by acting like a six year-old denied ice cream.

Q, we love you, but please, grow the hell up.

In the words of typing taskmaster Charles Weller, now is the time for all good men to come to the aid of their ballclub. Last night, you saw it.  Junior with a big two run single in the first inning.  Paulie with a homer and two singles.  Juan Uribe with two home runs.  These are the guys who are going to have to step up and close the wide gap left by the injury to Carlos Quentin.

When Kenny Williams picked up Junior Griffey, he did it as an insurance move in case Paulie's ribs didn't heal or Thome's back went out.  Never in his wildest dreams did he envision his interchangeable parts covering for Q.  But now they are.  And these guys are experienced enough and professional enough to get the job done.

You'd love to see Junior play like a hall of famer the next three weeks.  I suggest him moving over to left field, but I am pretty sure that won't happen.  Even if Griffey does have back issues or what ever issues he has, Ozzie can choose between Dewayne Wise and Brian Anderson.  And yes, I left Jerry Owens out on purpose.

It's time for swagger and not for stagger.  If these guys are as tough as they keep telling us, Quentin's injury represents a speed bump.  Let's hope it's that and nothing more.
