Everything Is Going To Be Alright
Even though the Chicago White Sox couldn't seal the deal on a sweep of the Los Angeles California Angels of Azuza and Cucamonga things turned out okay this weekend.
Mostly, the team has rallied around the injury to Carlos Quentin and several members of the team have stepped up into the breech.
Lightning Round:
Mostly, the team has rallied around the injury to Carlos Quentin and several members of the team have stepped up into the breech.
- Mark Buehrle pitched like Mark Buehrle Friday night.
- Ken Griffey Junior started off the scoring with a big two run single Friday night.
- Juan Uribe had two home runs and flashed some brilliant leather Friday night.
PinkGavin Floyd pitched with an unusual toughness Saturday night that may be a sign that he has finally gone from being soft to a mature, big league starter.- The Sox bullpen, save for Bobby Jenks giving up a go ahead homer in the top of the ninth, was stellar. Even Ehren Wasserman, P.I. pitched well.
- The Sox came back to tie the game in the bottom of the ninth Saturday night off of the best closer in the AL this year. Yes, even better than Joe Nathan.
- Jim Thome's mammoth shot Saturday night won the game for the Sox in 15 innings in a game that went back and forth all night long and was played with playoff intensity.
- John Danks, despite not getting any close calls from home plate umpire Eric (One Eye Blind) Cooper, worked himself out of a couple of jams in his six innings pitched Sunday.
- The biggest props of the weekend go to Captain Paul Konerko who homered in all three games and may finally be out of the funk he's been all year. Paulie is the guy who is going to have to step up the most
- God bless the Tigers.
Lightning Round:
- We're going to party like it's 1969.
- Ozzie made some curious decisions in yesterday's game, like starting Josh Fields at DH. Obviously, he wants to give Thome and Griffey some rest down the stretch and after winning the first two games of the series, he must have felt like he could get away with it. Unfortunately, Josh Fields looks totally lost at the plate right now.
- White Sox fans had better start pulling for the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. It looks like the little engine that could may be stuck going up the hill heading into a critical series with the Red Sox tonight. I'm sure that the Sox, who have several players who know the playoff drill would rather face the inexperienced Rays than the battle hardened Red Sox in the first round, especially since the Red Sox, if they remain the wild card, would have to play the Angels in the first round. The Angels have owned the Red Sox this year, and if the cosmic tumblers align correctly, the White Sox and Angels would play for the AL Pennant. After what we saw this weekend, I like the White Sox chances. Alas, my cart is in Naperville and my horse is in Crystal Lake. Then, there is the "be careful what you wish for" rule.
