I Love It When a Plan Come Together

Last night was one of those games you just knew that the Chicago White Sox would win.  Paul Konerko was back.  Pink Gavin Floyd was on the mound.  The Yankees were making off season travel plans.  And, as it worked out, the White Sox came away with a 6-2 win.

Couple that with a little help from the Cleveland Indians and the Sox magic number has been reduced to ten.

The White Sox followed their blueprint to victory, getting an early lead, a strong starting outing from Floyd and some actual cooperation from the bullpen.  Of course, in this game, Ozzie spared no expense going with dependable left hander Matt Thonrton and closer Bobby Jenks (in a non-save situation.)

The Sox pounded out twelve hits in the game.  Every starter except Jerry Owens (go figure) had at least one.  The best news for the Sox is that Konerko had two and an RBI in four official at bats.  It really does rest squarely on the shoulders of the White Sox captain to pick up the slack created by the injury to Carlos Quentin.

The Sox hope to further reduce that number tonight when they send Clayton Richards (not Lance Broadway) to the mound at Yankee stadium tonight against Phil Hughes (0-4 9.00).  Richards got the nod because the Yankees have a losing record against lefties (which apparently didn't phase them Monday night). With any luck, it will be crazy 8's at the end of the night.
