Random Shots: Be Careful What You Wish For Superman
Random shots while wondering whatever happened to Andrew "Quiche" Lorraine:
- Before you get too excited about Superman coming back to save the day realize that even if Q does make either a last weekend or playoff appearance, it will take him time to regain his strength and timing. In other words, he will not be Carlos Quentin. My concern is that as fragile as he's known to be, if he comes back too early and screws his wrist up (or another body part trying to compensate for his wrist) he'll become Scott Podsednik. We'd like better for Q as he is the key to the future.
- Joba Chamberlain made Jim Thome look awful to end the eighth inning. I thought at one time, we owned Joba. Not so much anymore.
- I get the feeling that the only way the Sox will win any game is to get a five run lead before the fourth inning and then hang on to win. Last night was one of those nights where the offense didn't come through (against Phil Freakin' Hughes and some dude named Coke) and the pitching bubble burst late in the game. A few more of those and it will be October tee times for everyone!
- Here's old news: Ben Sheets is hurt again. Is there anyone with more talent that is so fragile? Can't blame Ned Yost this time. (Bugs & Cranks)
- The good news is the Rays are so close to winning the east they can taste the blood in the water. The better news is that they play the Twinkies this weekend.
- The Chairman says a Cubs-Sox series would be "fabulous" even if the Cubs beat the Sox. That's because he already knows he'll have a maximum four games at his ballpark and playoff money is gravy. Look, Jerry, anything short of winning the world series is failure, period. Especially because no Sox fan wants to have to listen to those arrogant jackass Cub fans beat their hairless chests for a year.
- The Sox released their 2009 schedule yesterday. See you at Miller Park!
