Brewers Waste Sabathia Effort, Season

The Milwaukee Brewers wasted a solid short rest effort by C.C. Sabathia and lost to the Cincinnati Reds this afternoon.  The loss left the Brewers 2½ games out in the NL wildcard with 7 games left in the season.

It is doubtful Sabathia can start all of the remaining seven games.  He might be able to go Wednesday and Sunday.  After that, the Brewers are on their own.

The Brewers had the bases loaded and two out in the bottom of the ninth when former Brewer Francisco Cordero whiffed Price Fielder.  Doug Melvin must wish he would have signed Cordero instead of letting him become a free agent.  If today's performance by Cordero wouldn't convince him, here's two words that will: Eric Gagne.

Seth McClung gets the call for the Brewers Sunday.
