The Waiting Is The Hardest Part

Well, it started off as a good afternoon.  The magic number was down to six and you thought maybe, just maybe, by the end of the night it would be down to five and the Sox would have the 3½ game lead they need to get to Minnesota with.  Not so fast, my friend.

Once again the Sox couldn't put together a complete game.

Offensively, they were awful.  At one point, Kyle Davies set down 17 in a row.  They also had the tying run at the plate with one out and Jermaine and Mr. Fantastic couldn't get it done.  Not even a single.

Defensively the lack of speed in center killed the Sox when David DeJesus played pong off the right field corner.  Maybe  someone in center who didn't need a walker might get over there to make a play.  Jermaine tried way too hard on that play and it cost the White Sox a run.

Pink
Gavin Floyd pitched okay on three days rest, but I wonder if it would have been better if Ozzie had taken him out after the sixth inning.

Add this together with all of the damn"Cubs clinch" promos for WGN news and it was an annoying, frustrating, consider drop kicking your dog (I said consider, PETA, stand down) evening.

I am comforted by the words of Andrew, who, in a spirited and deadly accurate 35th Street Review said:

"Dare I say it? Yes, I dare say it: Go Cubs. Go nowhere, then go straight to hell, but go there fast and without hesitation. May horrible, horrible failure await at the end of the road, and may it be the Good Guys in black who deliver it to you."

Amen, my silver and black brother.

The Rays are going out celebrating tonight, so expect them not to win tomorrow.  The Sox need to win tomorrow.  Period.  End of sentence.  End of paragraph.

John Danks on short rest.  Let's hope the White Sox hit early and often.
