College Football Saturday
Not a remarkable day, but a few highlights.
Game of the Day
Game of the Day
You knew going in LSU and Auburn was the best matchup of the day and it didn't disappoint. Les Miles and Tommy Tuberville are the Bart and Brett Maverick of coaches who keep raising the stakes until someone takes the pot. Last night it was Miles and his O-COR Gary Crowton who made a huge call late in the game to go for it rather than run down the clock and go for a field goal. Their gutty decision resulted in a TD and the first road win in this series in eight years. Wow. Instant Classic. There are people who keep waiting for Les Miles to fall on his face and that may not happen. The guy can not only coach, he's got a pair the size of bowling balls.
- It's no surprise that Georgia handled Arizona State. Knowshon Moreno had 149 yards including a spectacular diving touchdown and Matthew Stafford continued on his roll. This sets up next week's game of the week between Georgia and Alabama, who destroyed Arkansas yesterday.
- Florida won big over Tennessee yesterday, but with all due respect to Urban Meyer, Tennessee is awful this year. Tennessee's quarterback Tennessee Quarterback Jonathan Crompton will probably get drafted by the Chicago Bears some day because he is that bad. Tennessee looked totally outmatched and under coached while Florida looked good, but you wonder if they are better than Georgia or LSU right now.
- Texas cooked Rice yesterday and looked like they should as a top ten ranked school playing a school from a conference off the radar. Colt McCoy looked terrific yesterday and should next Saturday when the Horns meet the Hogs of Arkansas.
- Missouri beat a competitive Buffalo teamyesterday in a game that was closer than it looked. I like Mizzou, but I think someone down the line may throw some defense at them and derail their train.
- BYU is an offensive juggernaut. I'd love to see them play a team that matters just to test how good they really are. They certainly will have an uphill battle with BCS voters the same way Boise State did a couple of years ago. Speaking of Boise State, how 'bout them Broncos?
- Ohio State is the third best team in the Big Ten. They played like it again yesterday. If you struggle against Ohio and Troy, imagine what Wisconsin and Penn State are going to do to you.
- JoPa could have coached from a helicopter and the outcome would have been the same. Look for Penn State to send Illinois to the woodshed next week.
- It appears Skip Holtz doesn't need to send Tom O'Brien a Christmas present. That's because Holtz gave it to him yesterday.
- Wow. If Notre Dame is this bad, you think Michigan fans are feeling good right now?
- Iowa had 100 chances to pull out yesterday's game against Pitt. They didn't. Damn you, Bumstedt.
