Butkus D. Dogg's Fearless Friday Forecast Week 5
I threw up on the couch Saturday. Seriously. The bald guy drops a lot of stuff on the floor when he's cooking and if I can distract the fat dog long enough, I can go to town. I guess I spent too much time in town. I also didn't realize at the time was that it was a premonition as to how my pro picks would go on Sunday. I went 2-3, but was 4-1 on the college picks and should have run the table except Iowa really, really sucks. So, after a 6-4 week, it's time to get back to it and raise the bar. Or the leg, whichever you prefer.Same rules as always: Five college, five pro, straight up.
College
- Minnesota vs. Ohio State: It's been a long time since the Gophers were 3-0. It will be an eternity before they get 4-0. This is the game where the Buckeyes get off the bus angry. The Gophers will be diving in their hole all day. Take Ohio State BIG
- Tennessee vs. Auburn: For some strange reason CBS decided not to take the best game in the SEC for a second week in a row (more on that in a moment.) Auburn played a terrific game against LSU only to lose in the last minute. This week, their offense and defense will make the seat even hotter for Phillip Fulmer and the Vols. I think Tennessee will come out with some fire, but until they get a quarterback who doesn't suck, they will be roadkill. Take Auburn
- Wisconsin vs. Michigan: Both teams enjoyed a day off last week, which means that last Saturday was one of the few Saturdays were Michigan wasn't going to lose. Wisconsin barely escaped Fresno State but will easily tame the mild Wolverines. That loud whirring sound you hear is Bo spinning in his grave. Take Wisconsin.
- Colorado vs. Florida State: Colorado is an up and coming team with a terrific quarterback. Florida State gets national recognition on their past reputation. Bobby Bowden should start loading the boxes in his office now. Jimbo Fisher might want to join him. Take Colorado
- Alabama vs. Georgia: At the risk of being made to sleep in the garage, while Alabama is a very talented team, they do not have the talent of Georgia. In the end, Georgia's defense and Knowshon Moreno will be a little too big a load for Bama to handle, especially Bama quarterback John Parkerhouserolls who tends to give up picks when he gets pressured. Unless Bama's offensive line can play a perfect game, chances are he'll throw at least a couple. In a close game, take Georgia.
Pro
- Green Bay vs. Tampa Bay: Remember when this used to be called "The Bay of Pigs Bowl" because both these teams were so awful? Okay, so the bald guy still lives in the '80's. In this game, Tampa won last week because their defense controlled the Bears receivers and even so, Brandon Lloyd had a big game for the Bears. The Packers have some really good receivers and will torch the Bucs secondary at will. The Bucs will return the favor as the Green Bay secondary is all banged up including both Al Harris who will not play and Charles Woodson. Take Green Bay in a close one that will be a high scoring affair.
- Minnesota vs. Tennessee: The Titans have been winning with defense and will continue to do so as Gus Freotte will get up close and personal with the turf most of the afternoon. Take Tennessee.
- Washington vs. Dallas: This is a classic trap game for Dallas, coming off a big win on the road against Green Bay. You would think at home, against a divisional rival, the Boys will be pretty up. Take Dallas.
- Philadelphia vs. Chicago: Based on the sheer volume and intensity of the profanity that spewed from the bald guy's mouth last Sunday during the fourth quarter and overtime of the Bears game last Sunday, I have concluded that either he was trying to tell me the Bears really stink or the fat dog took a dump in his office again. Since the fat dog is still here, I think it was more about the Bears being horrible. I think the only way the Eagles lose is if their bus crashes on the way to the game. Or, if Donovan McNabb and Michael Westbrook are hurt worse than we are being told. Take Philly.
- Baltimore vs. Pittsburgh: The Steelers looked awful against an undermanned Philly team last Sunday. Big Ben is beat up and that usually spells doom for the Steelers. Willie Parker is out for the Steelers. This Joe Flacco may be the next NFL phenom at quarterback, just like Ben was a few years ago. This game is one of those that could swing either way. I'm going out on a limb here and making a bold prediction: Take Baltimore.
