It's Not Over Until We Say It's Over
Yeah, okay. Carlos Gomez ripped your heart out and spit in your chest last night. I get that. And as frustrated and angry as I am over the Sox rolling over and giving away what may have been the most important game of the season, I also know that while in critical condition, there is still a pulse. And as long as there is a pulse, there is hope. For the Sox to pull this off (without any help from the Royals) requires a simple five game home winning streak. If they sweep the Indians this weekend (big if), that sets up a makeup game with the Tigers for Monday. If the Sox beat the Tigers (who, annoyed their tee times will get pushed back to Tuesday, probably will not be very happy to be in Chicago, thus rolling over) it forces a one game playoff against the Twinkies in the house that Jerry built.
Something tells me that if the season came down to a one game showdown at U.S. Commiskey, the White Sox would have the last laugh. Don't get mad, get even. And get the last word.
The sweep at the Rollerdome did not eliminate the Sox from playoff contention, it just complicated the process. The Sox have put themselves in a position where they cannot afford to lose another game. This scenario is totally dependent on them, because even if the Twinkies sweep the Royals, as long as the Sox stay even, they have the makeup game Monday to potentially makeup the difference. If it was just a three game season for the White Sox at this point, I'd throw in the towel. But it's a four game, possibly a five game season and I've invested way too much emotional energy in this bunch to give it up just yet.
It's all up to them. Do they care? Is Orlando Cabrera right, instead of a band of brothers is this a heartless bunch of bastards? Can they recover from getting swept in Minnesota or are they just going to play out the string?
Just five days ago, people in Milwaukee were about to give up on the Brewers. Milwaukee has won four straight and iwith three games left have tied with the Mets for the wildcard. This after the Brewers fell 1½ games behind after a long losing streak.
Yeah, it will be tough. But not hardly impossible.

I admire your optimism, but unfortunately I don't share it. Cleveland has been very good in the second half, I haven't seen anything from the Sox lately that makes me think they'll pull it together this weekend.
