Random Shots: No Pressure On White Sox
Random shots while wondering whatever happened to Gary Glover. Oh yeah, never mind:
- I don't think there is a whole lot of pressure on the Chicago White Sox in the playoffs. Nobody expected them to be here and they are probably the fourth best team in the American League. Anything they get from this point on will be gravy. Hopefully there will be lots of gravy. Other teams in the playoffs are being held to a much higher standard and expectation level. And those teams usually gag.
- The White Sox will be playing without star left fielder Carlos Quentin. The Rays have a similar situation.
- Home runs are at a fifteen year low this year. Watch for MLB to bend the rules so they come back. Like the Chairman says "No one comes to the ballpark to watch a pitching duel."
- Cedric Benson has gone to the halfway house known as the Cincinnati Bengals. The irony here is fantastic.
- The Bears have some significant injuries going into Sunday's game with
Detroit. Let's not forget, the Lions swept the bears last year, so as
lightly as you want to take them, they still have proven to be a thrown
in the Bears side.I really enjoyed Al Davis' press conference Tuesday. It wasn't one of those pre-packaged, over managed media events where the parties spew well crafted sound bites. It was the Raiders managing partner taking you inside the world of the Raiders and telling you the truth as he saw it. It was very refreshing. Sure, all the media people are bashing Davis calling him crazy, but at least he laid it all out there. (Pro Football Talk)
- If Aaron Rodgers has a serious shoulder injury and can't go, Ted Thompson needs to get an experienced quarterback in camp now if he expects the Packers to compete. Two rookies aren't going to do it. Of course, when you look at the other quarterbacks in the NFC North you realize, his three probably trump everyone.
- A band in Milwaukee was fired after playing the song "Go Cubs Go" while performing at TGI Friday's in Miller Park. If I ruled the world, any band performing that song would be fired.
- With all due respect to Alabama fans (most importantly my wife) I think Bama got ranked too high too fast. If I were doing the picking, it would be Oklahoma, LSU. Mizzou, and then Alabama if not Texas. I think the Tide is a great team this year, but I don't think they are the second best team in the country right now. If they don't stumble in October, their season will come down to beating both LSU and Auburn, neither of which will be easy games.
- Somebody want to tell Phillip Fulmer the horse is long out of the barn? Seriously, if Crompton is their best quarterback, I'd hate to see the guy at number two.
- I really hate this "Chase for the Championship" deal NASCAR has going. Kyle Busch has gone from penthouse to outhouse in just a couple of races. Doesn't his spectacular regular season count for anything? If this is supposed to be "playoffs" then why are those other 30 guys out there?
- When I was a kid, my Uncle Ben used to take me to Arlington Park. He'd give me $20 and place bets for me. I always bet on any horse ridden by Earlie Fires. Sadly, the Fires has gone out.
