College Football Saturday: Thanks for Playing Mizzou, Edition
An interesting albeit much tamer day in college football Saturday:
Texas 56 Missouri 31-The Horns will get a lot more first place votes this week against a Missouri team that accomplished two things last night: Blew any chance of a BCS bowl appearance and eliminated Chase Daniels from Heisman consideration. There's no doubt the best QB in college football so far this year is Colt McCoy.- Alabama 24 Ole Miss 20-Nick Saban better do something about his team's performance in the second half or the Tide will hit the wall when they play a good team.
- Penn State 46 Michigan 17-I can see Penn State jumping over Bama into second in the polls after pasting a weak Michigan team. The fact is, PSU did what they had to do and set up a dandy (thanks Brent) matchup with Ohio State next weekend.
- Oklahoma 45 Kansas 31-Bob's boys showed no ill effects from the Texas loss. Kansas proved they are good but still not a BCS type team.
- Texas Tech 45 Texas A&M 25-The Red Raider engine may be running out of steam. They may get by beating Kansas next week, but they have their own showdown November 1st with Texas.
- USC 69 Washington State 0-USC is still playing for a title. They could leap frog Texas Tech this week in the polls.
- Oklahoma State 34 Baylor 6-The fighting Gundy's keep rolling over a much weaker opponent. Their roll ends next weekend in Austin.
- Georgia 24 Vanderbilt 14-This game shows that Georgia isn't as good as advertised and that Vanderbilt is pretty good. If Vandy beats Duke next weekend, they are bowl eligible.
- LSU 24 South Carolina 17-LSU came out in the second half and dominated but the more you watch the Tigers the more you realize they are about Kansas good. At least the Ol' Ball Coach found a non-Smelly Quarterback.
- Ohio State 45 Michigan State 7-Don;t let this game fool you. OSU had underachieved and MSU was playing way over its' head. The reality check for Penn State comes next weekend.
- Utah 49 Colorado State 16-It will be interesting to see where the Utes rank when the BCS standings come out today. My guess is, not very high.
- Boston College 28 Va. Tech 23-I'm not sure why this game was an upset other than BC is non-ranked. The Eagles lead their division in the ACC and have a statement game next weekend against UNC.
- Virginia 16 UNC 13 OT-This may have been a job saving win for Cav's coach Al Groh. UNC needs to get back with a win over BC next weekend.
- Pitt 42 Navy 21-Looks like the blind squirrel is finding a lot of acorns this season. Maybe ah all the ah pieces are in ah place.
- Arizona 42 Cal 27-Mike Stoops continues to try and save his job with an upset over mighty Cal. Although the Cats are on a roll, that hits a brick wall next week when the buzz saw known as USC shows up.
