Phil Gives Up The Hill

ESPN is reporting that Tennessee head football coach Phillip Fulmer is resigning effective at the end of the season.  Fulmer met with Tennessee officials this morning, obviously worked out the numbers and will announce the decision this afternoon at 4pm (CST).

Despite the fact that Fulmer has a top recruiting class signed for next year, Vol fans tired of not being in the national championship hunt for the last five or six seasons.  The fan and booster pressure, plus a loss Saturday to South Carolina and the uber villian Steve Spurrier was the final nails in Fulmer's coffin.

To be fair, Fulmer has given most of his life and career to Tennessee.  Fulmer delivered a national championship in 1998 as well as several appearances in the SEC  championship game.  Lately, that has not been the case and Vol fans have been screaming for Fulmer's head.

Personally, if I were Fulmer, I'd flip everybody off and quit today given how ungrateful and forgetful Tennessee fans seem to be.  Fulmer has way too much class for that.  If Tennessee fans don't believe that this move will set their program back, they might want to place a call to Ann Arbor. Be careful what you wish for, Vol Nation!

In other news, Tommy Tuberville, you are on the clock. . .
