Meet The Parents
Being a college football coach is a bigger job than anyone can imagine. Besides the obvious preparation for games, there are boosters, trustees and fans to deal with. Radio shows, interviews, press conferences and a whole bunch of other things. All while trying to keep 100 young men out of trouble.
Then, there is the most insidious part of the job. Dealing with parents.
Take the case of Ohio State receiver Ray Small. Small was suspended for two games for violation of team rules. But his father swears it's unfair and that OSU is trying to ruin his son's career. Huh?
Translated, it means that since his son won't be playing, NFL scouts can't see him and his value will be decreased. Small already has had a significant reduction in playing time. Perhaps because Ohio State played poorly early on and coaches made adjustments to try to salvage the season.
In any case, coaches suspend players who break team rules (at least good programs do.) If Small violated those rules, he deserves to be punished and his Daddy should immediately cease the use of his pie hole.
Why is it these parents look at their own children as lottery tickets?
