BCS Numbers: Not So Fast My Friend Edition
The new BCS numbers are out and I'm reading all this blah blah blah about how should Alabama or Texas Tech stumble, Texas is in.To quote a certain former college coach turned broadcaster, "Not so fast my friend."
The team you need to look at is Oklahoma. Texas has already run the gauntlet in the Big 12 having played Tech, Oklahoma State and Oklahoma. The Sooners on the other hand haven't played Tech or Oklahoma State. Therefore, it's simple math. The Sooners BCS number is lower because their combined strength of schedule is lower because they haven't played two teams with high BCS scores. Texas has a higher score because they have.
Sure, Texas has beaten Oklahoma, but OU wins over Tech and OSU should put them ahead of the Horns. I say should.
So, it works out like this. If Oklahoma takes out Tech on November 22nd and Oklahoma State on the 29th, chances are it will be the Sooners and not the Longhorns with the higher BCS number. That would get the Sooners into the Big 12 championship game against Missouri with a chance to go to Miami.
At this point, we are certain of one thing. The BCS championship game will most likely involve one of two teams Alabama or Florida against one of three teams: Texas, Texas Tech or Oklahoma. The only way that changes is if Oklahoma beats Tech, falls on it's face against OSU and Texas loses the Big 12 championship game. Then it's USC.
Stay tuned.
