I know the Lane Kiffin era hasn't officially started, but I am convinced it is doomed to failure before it even gets started.  No one has convinced me that Kiffin has a clue what he is doing as a head coach.  That might work at Mississippi State, but a major program like Tennessee, that has had a terrific run under a popular coach forced out too early (Phil Fulmer) is asking for a lot of trouble in brining in the inexperienced Kiffin.  Even if he's joined by Ed Orgeron and his dad, Monte.  Here's what Ray Ratto of the San Fransisco Chronicle has to say (thanks to Can't Stop the Bleeding for the link)

• It looks like Dabo Swinney has won the permanent job at Clemson.  The strategy may be that Dabo is a low cost alternative to say, Phil Fulmer, while the university continues to pay off Tommy Bowden. In a couple of years with losses recouped, they can launch Dabo and hire a bigger name if Dabo can't cut the mustard.
• Chicago Tribune columnist Rick Morrissey calls for the overthrow of Notre Dame coach Charlie Weis
• Embattled Auburn coach Tommy Tuberville's strategy is to whistle past the grave yard.
• Tis the season for assistants to get thrown under the bus. Generally, when you see this happen, it's the signal that the head coach has been given one more season to turn it around or else.

• That high flying Mizzou offense is coming to Wyoming.
