They Said It

Here at Chip Shots, we welcome other opinions (that we agree with):

Don't deny it either, Auburn. Tubs is one of the best coaches in the country. You ran him off -- or the trustees or Bobby Lowder or everyone did. It really doesn't matter. He's gone now, and you're never getting him back. Good luck with getting someone just as good. In fact, if the initial reports are true, you ought to be horse whipped.

I really question some of the judgment, relative to how it is for our game that people who have those kind of relationships and have done that kind of job and affected so many people in a positive way -- and have had a reasonable amount of success relative to their circumstances -- would not be given more respect and consideration than what these guys have been. So I guess we're 5-7 away from the same thing.

If Bettman had any real understanding of the game, he would have left this to be addressed on the ice by the Flames, which certainly would have made for a more compelling offering than the passionless contest that transpired. But the commish knows best, and within hours he'd placed a restraining bolt on Avery, suspending him indefinitely pending a hearing under By-Law 17 and Article 6 of the league constitution that covers conduct "detrimental to the league or game of hockey."
