TCU No Small Potatos

In the first seven minutes of last night's Poinsettia Bowl, you were thinking blow out.  Idaho State came out of the gate with some razzle dazzle on the opening kickoff and quickly scored a field goal.  Their next drive resulted in a touchdown.

But something funny happened on the way to a blowout.  TCU made the necessary adjustments, refused to be fooled by the multiple Boise State offensive formations and began to shut the Broncos down cold.

The Boise State loss leaves Utah as the only undefeated team left in Division I and we all know that's going to end at the Sugar Bowl.  But the TCU win does bring up a couple of interesting conversation points.

Should either of these teams been allowed to play in one of the BCS games over someone like, Ohio State?  Honestly, I think so.  Sure, they play in weaker conferences, but as Boise State proved a few years ago, they can be giant killers.  I think both these teams are more entertaining to watch than the bigger schools who play it by the book.  Besides, that's what makes the NCAA basketball tournament so compelling, the little guys taking out the big guys.

Unfortunately, greed and control issues will prevent us from having a college football playoff. Schools like Boise State and TCU deserve a better stage than an anonymous bowl sponsored by a San Diego Credit Union.  Too bad for all of us.
