Random Shots: Bears Suffer Brown Out (Again)

Random thoughts while wondering whatever happened to Pete Filson:

  • Well, at least Mike Brown waited for the end of the season for his annual injury.  As talented and necessary a player as he is, how much longer can the Bears go on knowing every year the guy winds up on IR.
  • Don't look now but Chicago is beginning to notice that they have a hockey team again.  If we can get back to where we were in the early 70's where the Hawks ruled and nobody cared about the Bulls, that would be fine by me.  One more thing.  If the Hawks, the only major sport team in Chicago that I care about not to win a championship in my lifetime, does win a Stanley Cup in the next couple of years, please remember I've always been on the bandwagon.
  • One of the reasons that lawyers drag out all the dirty laundry is to embarrass a celebrity into a settlement.  I don't know what happened between Brian Giles and his girlfriend, but I get the feeling it's more about the Benjamins than it is the abuse.  I understand how awful domestic violence is, but I also understand how awful extortion is.  I think the truth in this case is somewhere in between.
  • Another reason the Minnesota Vikings don't deserve to make the playoffs. (Sports by Brooks)
  • There's a lot of folks that think Mike Singletary is too crazy to be a head coach.  They thought the same thing about Ditka, who actually broke the "great players are lousy coaches" rule.  It would be nice to see Samurai be successful.
  • Anyone else think Brett Favre's arm will have a miracle comeback late next July? It's amazing how much he's tarnished his legacy just my playing head games.
  • Apparently in the No Fun League, tthrowing or playing in snow is just as bad as spitting on someone.  Didn't some of these suits have childhoods?  It's just more proof that the players don't answer to Joe Six pack, they answer to the sky box guys and sponsors who have no sense of humor. Once those highlights hit Sportscenter, the league has to fine players to assure those with money that it does not tolerate bad behavior and that the NFL is still a wise investment.  Everything that happens in sports off the field is a result of how it will play in the board room.
  • For the five of you who watched it, you got a pretty good game.
  • Signing Randy Johnson was a great idea; in 1998.
  • What scares me is not that Boomer has been at ESPN for thirty years, it's that I remember when he started and was watching him then.  Honestly, as crude as it was, ESPN was almost better then.
  • Baseball's version of the movie "Sunset Boulevard". Mr. Piniella, I'm ready for my close up.
  • Cedric Benson has no former Bear teammates he still talks to and dislikes Bears running back coach Tim Spencer, the same guy who apparently has developed Matt Forte.  So, if you take what he says seriously, everybody in Chicago is a hater, but in Cincinnati, everyone loves him.  Typical of someone who blames someone else for his problems.  Besides, it not like there's any pressure playing for the Bengals.  Being the best back on a terrible team is not necessarily an accomplishment.
