Bowling, Bowling, Bowling, Keep Them Doggies Bowling

I finally got a chance to watch some bowl games yesterday.  Some thoughts:

Sun Bowl
-Nothing makes me happier than Dave Wannstedt standing clueless on the sideline as his team gets shut out 3-0.  Nice work, Wanny.

Music City Bowl-I covered Vanderbilt for four years back in the late nineties and I have a warm spot in my heart for them.  Back in that day, they found more ways to lose than they did to win. Once, I even saw them blow a ten point lead against Western Michigan in the waning seconds. ESPN's Rece Davis nailed it yesterday when describing the winning field goal when he said "the old Vandy would have fumbled the snap or got a penalty, but this is the new Vandy."  Congrats to Bobby Johnson and his team and all of the loyal, long suffering Vandy fans in what is the biggest win in Nashville since the "Music City miracle."

Peach Chick-Fil-A Bow
l-I was really, really disappointed in this game because I thought it would be a pretty even matchup. Apparently the Tigers have their groove back.

Insight.com Bowl-I didn't see this game because I don't get the NFL network.  I find it curious that I have the MLB network on day one (and look forward to watching it) but the wonks at the NFL are so arrogant they just don't see the logic of getting themselves in front of more people.  Don't believe me?  Then how come three of the four major sports have reached an agreement with the majority of cable operators and the NFL hasn't?  As far as the game was concerned, no big surprise here

Helicopter Bowl-I didn't see this one (traveling) but this probably was the most significant win for Houston since David Klingler was taking snaps behind center.

Games I'll try to check out today:

Outback Bowl-G'day mates.  Iowa has an all world running back in Shonn Greene and one of the country's top defenses.  South Carolina has a Smelly quarterback.  Of the SEC vs. the world matchups, this may be the one they don't win.

Capitol One Bowl-Interesting matchup between two outstanding running backs, Knowshon Moreno of Georgia and Javon Ringer of Michigan State.  The difference in this game is Matthew Stafford who will torture Michigan State's defense all day long.  In Big Ten vs. SEC matchups, generally the speed of the SEC team is superior to that of the Big Ten team.  Besides, it's been a disappointing year for Georgia and Mark Richt needs a big exclamation point heading into next year.

Rose Bowl
-Maybe for three minutes until the USC rout starts.

Games I won't waste my time with today:

Gator Bowl: Nebraska vs. Clemson.  If this was 1997, this might be an interesting game.  Besides, I rarely watch games coached by grown men named "Dabbo."

Orange Bowl-This is where the BCS sucks.  Va tech vs. Cincinnati?  Pleeze. . .

Games to watch tomorrow:

Cotton Bowl-The question here is can Ole Miss keep up with Texas Tech?  Probably not, but to watch reaction shots of two of the wackiest coaches in college football is worth my time. for at least an hour or so.

Sugar Bowl
-My wife is from Alabama. I'll watch this and like it. She'll like it too as Utah will be a deer in the headlights by halftime.
